Rosy Ring Toss

Free Custom Photo Calendars

Read Robert the Rose Horse – a story about a horse whose allergy to roses keeps getting him in trouble…until he saves the day! Then make our rosy ring toss. This book also provides a good opportunity to talk with children about what it’s like if you have lost a job or are having a hard time finding a job. What You’ll Need:
*Robert the Rose Horse by Joan Heilbroner
*Heavyweight cardboard like from a shipping box – about 10x10 size
*Red, pink, and green paint
*Cardboard tube from a roll of paper towels
*Paper plates – 2 per player

*Cut the heavyweight cardboard out in a floral shape. In the center of the flower, trace the circumference of the paper towel tube. Cut a hole out just slightly smaller than the traced line. Paint the flower-shaped cardboard red, with pink accents. Allow to dry.

*Meanwhile, cut out the center of each paper plate for your rings. Paint the rings – if you plan to have multiple players, you’ll want them to have two rings of the same color. Allow to dry.
*Meanwhile, paint the paper towel tube. Allow to dry.

*Read Robert the Rose Horse together. With each sneeze, get louder and louder until the last sneeze, which should be explosive! Talk about what having allergies means. Poor Robert is having a hard time finding a job because of his allergies. Do you know anyone who is having a hard time finding a job? Talk about why it’s important to have a job and how hard it can be to lose a job. What other jobs can a horse do? How does Robert’s allergy go from being something that makes things harder for him to something that makes everyone happy?
*Assemble your ring toss game by putting the paper towel tube inside the hole you cut out of your cardboard flower. If you need to weigh it down, glue or tape the ring toss base to a wooden block.

*Take turns tossing your rings onto the rosy ring toss and see who can get closest!
*Send us a picture of your kids playing with their rosy ring toss we may post it to our site!
