Treasure Stones

Great for scavenger hunts, these treasure stones are a fun way to get the kids outside. They’ll love to make them AND search for them! If you like this activity, try our Hide A Rock game which is another fun outdoor seeking game.

What You’ll Need:
*1 cup flour
*1 cup used coffee grounds, dried out
*1/2 cup salt
*1/4 cup sand
*3/4 cup water
*Small toys that can be hidden inside

*Preheat oven to 170 degrees.

*Combine all the dry ingredients. Slowly add the water, stirring until the mixture forms a dough.
*In your hands, roll a piece of the dough about the size of a lemon. Poke a hole in the center, and push the small toy inside. Close the hole and mold the dough into your desired shape.
*Place on cookie sheet and bake for 40 minutes. Allow to cool completely.
*Meanwhile, talk about the idea of treasure. For some people, this may mean gold and jewels, for others, it may mean food and water. What is your idea of treasure? If you found a treasure map and it led to a secret treasure box, what would you hope to find inside?
*You can hide the treasure stones for your children to find and break open, or they can give them to friends. You can create a treasure map leading them to the treasure stones. You can even give them some “tools” such as rocks, sticks, etc. to break them open.
*Send us a picture of your kids and their treasure stones we may post it to our site!
