Toilet Paper Roll Butterfly
Have you already started seeing butterflies in your yard? Well, you will if you make these beautiful butterflies which are also a great way to recycle!
What You’ll Need:
*Toilet paper rolls, OR paper towel rolls, cut in half
*If your child is very young, you may want to cut the butterfly wings out for them ahead of time. Fold the paper in half and cut one set of wings out of the open side.
*Draw or paint a face at the top end of the toilet paper roll.
*To create a symmetrical effect for your butterfly, have your child paint just one side of the butterfly’s wings. Then, while the paint is still wet, fold the paper in half, with paint inside, so it transfers to the other side. Allow paint to dry thoroughly.
*While you are waiting for the paint to dry, talk about recycling. Explain how you are reusing the toilet paper roll, which would otherwise be thrown away. If not for that roll, you would have to buy or find something else to use. Talk about other ways you can be reusing and recycling household items.
*Glue the toilet paper roll to the center of your butterfly, making sure the face is at the top and facing out.
*Send us a picture of your butterfly and we may post it to our site! firstname.lastname@example.org.
