Name Games, Part 3

Free Custom Photo Calendars

All Preschoolers are proud of learning to recognize and write their names. Children should learn to write their names using an upper case letter for the first letter and lower case letters for the rest. If they use all upper case letters it is a hard habit to break as they get older. Here are some more activities to help them master these skills: Magic Names, Pudding Names, and Sand/Rice/Salt Names.

What You’ll Need:
*Paper
*Crayon
*Water color or tempra paint
*Water
*Paintbrush
*Cookie sheet
*Aluminum Foil
*Pudding or shaving cream
*Sand, rice, or salt

Preparation for Magic Names:
*Prepare area for painting.

Activity for Magic Names:
*Have your child write or trace his/her name in crayon. Have them go over the letters several times to make sure the crayon is heavy.
*Use the water color or tempra paints to paint over the name. The paint will not cover the crayon letters and their name will magically show through.

Preparation for Pudding Names:
*Cover a cookie sheet with aluminum foil.
*Spread the pudding or shaving cream on the cookie sheet.

Activity for Pudding Names:
*Have your child practice writing his/her name in the pudding or shaving cream first with his/her finger, then palm, fist, etc. Then have fun finger painting in the pudding or shaving cream!

Preparation for Sand/Rice/Salt Names:
*Cover a cookie sheet with aluminum foil.
*Spread some sand, rice, or salt on a cookie sheet.

Activity for Sand/Rice/Salt Names:
*Have your child practice writing his/her name in the sand, rice, or salt.
