"Mmm, Cookies!" Story and Activity

February is "Bake for Family Fun" Month! So we are reposting this great Book Club activity for you to enjoy with your family. Happy baking!
Mmm, Cookies by Robert Munsch is a fun story about a boy named Christopher who tricks his family and friends with playdough cookies. Robert Munsch wrote this story based on his experience working in a daycare when the children would make him “cookies” and laugh at his funny faces and noises. Substitute your funniest sound effects to make this story your own.
What You’ll Need:
*Mmm, Cookies by Robert Munsch
*Prepared sugar cookie dough, or use the recipe below
*White icing
*Food coloring
*Colored sugar or sprinkles
*Raisins (optional)
*Red & yellow playdough
Preparation:
*If you plan to make the sugar cookies from scratch, print out a copy of the recipe below and make sure you have all the ingredients.
Activity:
*Read Mmm, Cookies by Robert Munsch. Make up your own sound effects and funny faces and encourage your children to do so, too.
*Bake the sugar cookies according to the package directions or using the recipe below. (To make the sugar cookie dough red like the playdough cookies in the book, add a few drops of red food coloring to the sugar cookie dough & mix thoroughly before baking.)
*While the cookies are baking, have your children use the playdough to make their best imitation sugar cookies and take turns “eating” them with sound effects and funny faces.
*While the cookies are cooling off, spoon out some white food coloring into a few different bowls. Add a drop or two of food coloring to each bowl to make different colored icing.
*When cookies are cool, ice with colored icing, sprinkle with sugar or sprinkles, and add raisins on top. Enjoy!
