Hawaiian Grass Skirt
Have a luau at home and start with these "grass" skirts! If you like this craft, you’ll also like our Hawaiian Lei Necklaces - also perfect for your luau.
What You’ll Need:
*One large brown paper bag (grocery size)
*Ribbon or yarn
*Cut handles, if any, off the paper bag. Cut down one long side and remove the bottom of the bag.
*Did You Know? Grass skirts are used in a Hawaiian dance called the hula. Hula dances have been going on since the 1700s, but the grass skirt came about in the 1800s.
*Color the paper bag green. Starting at the end of one long side, cut slits about 3/4 of the way up. This fringe will form the bottom of the skirt.
*On the top of the skirt, punch a hole about every 2 inches. Thread the holes with ribbon or yarn and tie around your waist. Add a flower lei and start practicing!
*Send us a picture of your kids and their skirts and we may post it to our site! firstname.lastname@example.org.
