Make your own fossils with flowers and leaves from your yard. If you like this craft, check out our TicTacToe Garden Stone.
What You’ll Need:
*Clay or playdough (we used a polymer clay that can be baked)
*Flowers & leaves
*Take a walk outside and collect leaves and flowers to use for your fossils.
*Flatten out your clay with the rolling pin so it is smooth and flat, about ¼ inch thick.
*Gently press the leaves or flowers into the clay to make an impression. Pull off gently.
*Let air dry or bake at 250 degrees for 15 minutes to harden.
*Talk with your kids about fossils. They may think that all fossils come from dinosaurs, but pretty much anything can be fossilized. Find some pictures of fossils (see Suggested Resources below) and come up with other household items you could use to make an interesting fossil.
*Send us a picture of your kids and their fossils we may post it to our site! firstname.lastname@example.org.
