Book Club: Chicka Chicka Boom Boom & Craft
Read Chicka Chicka Boom Boom – the classic story of alphabet letters meeting in a coconut tree. But what happens when the tree gets too heavy? Find out and then make Handprint Palm Tree craft. This book also provides a good opportunity to work with children on letter identification. If you like this craft, check out our Letter Dominos game.
What You’ll Need:
*Chicka Chicka Boom Boom by Bill Martin, Jr. & John Archambault
*Brown craft paper
*Green & brown paint
*Use the brown paint to make the trunk of the palm tree on the brown craft paper.
*Use green handprints to make the leaves of the palm tree. (We recommend using a paintbrush to paint your child's hand green, then having them press it on the paper.)
*Add brown coconuts.
*Allow to dry.
*Read Chicka Chicka Boom Boom together. Point to each letter as you say its name in the story.
*Cut out the palm tree and keep the scraps. Using a pencil, write the letters of the alphabet on the brown paper (or use a separate sheet of white paper). Have your child trace over the pencil with markers.
*Cut the letters out. Put a stick on magnet on the back of each letter, and a number of them on the back of the palm tree. Put the tree and letters on your fridge and let your child reenact the story as you read it aloud again.
*Send us a picture of your kids and their palm trees we may post it to our site! firstname.lastname@example.org.
